As part of the fundraising for Climb4Clare we are taking part in a huge Hell & Back event on September 12th in Kilruddery House, Wicklow. All funds raised will be donated to Climb4Clare. However, we couldn’t ask you to take part in this event without doing it ourselves so yesterday morning, at a time far too early for comfort, our Hell & Back team gathered together at the gym for our first training session. Here is our National Development Manager, and training supervisor, Paula Prunty to take you through what we did: 3 of the LGFA Hell & Back team that underwent our first training session in aid of Climb4Clare. Paula Prunty, Karen Togher and Derek Kinnevey. Team LGFA started our training for Hell&Back on 12th September. Having not done any physical exercise for quite awhile I decided if I’m to survive this I will need to start training immediately. With some (actually a lot!) of nagging from the rest of team to put a programme together I dusted off the college notes and starting reading about periodization, muscle loading and Kreb’s cycle! Just reading it was sounding like hard work so I consulted my live-in expert, my husband and after a grilling on what I should know I pulled together a plan, well at least session 1! Session 1 consisted of a ten station circuit, 45 seconds on, 15 minute rest. The circuit to be completed twice! All the exercises consisted of movements which would involve multiple muscle groups, with the aim of giving an all body workout! Having now completed it, it was certainly an all body workout!! It was actually good to have Karen and Derek there also as I know I certainly wouldn’t have even contemplated doing this morning’s session never mind completing it if I were alone! Have that feel good factor now for the day! Morning sessions are definitely the way to go! Next up is a 30-min run on Thursday!
