Live coverage of Suzuki Ladies National Football Finals

Live TV Coverage of

Suzuki Ladies National Football League Finals

The status of the Suzuki Ladies National Football
League will be elevated to an exciting new plateau on Saturday night
when the Division 1 and Division 2 finals take place in a stand-alone
programme at Parnell Park and will be televised live by TG4. Defending
champions Cork will meet first time finalists Meath in the Division
1 final at 7.45, while Leinster rivals Kildare and Laois will open
the programme of events when they play in the Division 2 final at
6.00.

The focus of attention switches to Athlone on Sunday when Clare
and Leitrim contest the Division 3 final, with Monaghan and Galway
opening that programme at 2.00 in the B final. “This has
been a superb league and we are delighted that the finals in Division
1 and 2 will receive live TV coverage,” said the Chief Executive
of the Ladies Football Association, Helen O’Rourke, at a
captain’s photo call and press conference in Croke Park today.

“Already we have enjoyed a terrific start to the season.
We had a very successful All Stars tour to Singapore and the participation
of 32 counties in Divisions 1, 2 and 3 of the Suzuki League, as
well as an eleven county B league provided us with a superb competition.
“Live television coverage from Parnell Park will expand our
audience once more and contribute further to the continuing growth
of Ladies Football,” she added.

Cork have been installed as favourites to defend their league
title after an impressive run to the final. They remain unbeaten
in the competition and were impressive winners over a highly rated
Galway team in the semi-final. This is Cork’s third consecutive
league final and they are also, of course, reigning All-Ireland
champions. However, they will be wary of a Meath team contesting
its first final after showing little regard for reputations in
their league programme. Meath produced their most memorable performance
in the semi-final when they enjoyed a one point victory over Mayo,
1-13 to 2-9. There were a number of heroic performances in that
game, especially in the Meath defence with goalkeeper Irene Munnelly
making a series of superb stops.

Laois enjoyed a three goal win over Kildare when they met in
Division 2A earlier in the season and they are fancied to collect
another national title on Saturday. The Division 3 finalists also
met during the league series when Leitrim had a comfortable win
over Clare. But they will also be aware of some excellent form
shown by Clare that included the semi-final victory over Fermanagh.

Galway will hope to gain some compensation for their Division
1 semi-final loss when the ‘B’ team bids for success
against Monaghan.
