London Ladies make winning start

London ladies make winning start to 2008 Suzuki National League

At Thomastown in Division 3b, a repeat of last years junior ladies final took place between champions Kilkenny and runners up London.
In what was a close tough game, London’s team showed they were determined to expel the memories of defeat in Croke Park last september, they started the better going a point up through Shauna Keogh, although they put fierce pressure on Kilkenny they did not add to score and the home side came back into it and pulled away to lead 1-04 to London’s 0-03 at half time.
London came out with renewed determination in the second half and after a sweeping move Hannah Noonan pointed to leave three points between the sides, a fierce shot by Sharon Lynch was turned over the crossbar by Kilkenny’s new keeper Aine
Sheehy and London were coming forward in waves.

Kilkenny in a rare trip into London’s half scored a point, but then the move of the match, the football was worked up field to Linda Lodge, who with a hand pass over the Kilkenny defence found Shauna Keogh, who beat Aine Sheehy low into the left corner, scores level, London were awarded a free Shauna Keogh pointed, London a point up but had to withstand fierce pressure from Kilkenny for the last five minutes but the held on a fantastic victory 1-06 to Kilkenny’s 1-05.
