Longford's Michelle Farrell leads the race for the 2022 ZuCar Golden Boot award!

THERE’S a new leader in the race for the 2022 ZuCar Golden Boot award!

With a total of 2-16 (22 points), Longford’s Michelle Farrell leads the way but she won’t have a chance to add to that total as the Midlanders were knocked out of the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Championship last weekend.

Hunting down Farrell, and with the chance to add to their totals against Clare in the All-Ireland Intermediate semi-final on Sunday July 10, are Laois trio Erone Fitzpatrick, Mo Nerney and Emma Lawlor, who are all locked together on 21 points.

Previous leader Michelle Guckian has been overtaken and the Leitrim star won’t have a chance to add to her tally of 1-17, as her county was eliminated in the group stages.

Tyrone’s Chloe McCaffrey (2-14) is also out of the Championship, as is Wicklow’s Marie Kealy (0-19).

Wexford’s Aisling Murphy (4-7), Carlow’s Sara Doyle (1-15) and Wexford’s Caitriona Murray (3-9) make up the current top 10 – but Clare’s Fidelma Marrinan is also in the running with a current total of 2-12.

That’s an identical tally to Cork’s Doireann O’Sullivan, who’s the leading scorer in the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship.

Current top 10:

  1. Michelle Farrell – Longford – 2-16 (22)
  2. Erone Fitzpatrick – Laois 4-9 (21)
