Louth
U14 Ladies through to Leinster A Semi Final Louth
4-9 Laois 3-8 Louth Ladies U14 team, captained by
Aoife Byrne, continued to fly the flag for Ladies
football in the County by beating Laois in the quarter
final of the Leinster Championship in Ardee on Saturday
last. Louth now go on to meet Dublin in the semi-final
in two weeks time. The game had only commenced when
Louth were awarded a penalty and Gillian McDonnell
stepped up to take the shot. The shot rebounded
of the Laois goalie, but Gillian made no mistake
in gathering the rebound and sent the ball to the
back of the net to give Louth a three point lead.
Within a few minutes, some great play from Lizzie
Butterly saw her give a great pass to Gillian McDonnell
who again found the back of the Laois net. Clare
McCann was on form for Louth and scored two points
from play. Laois responded to Louths scoring spree
and soon found the back of the Louth net. Michelle
McMahon and Gillian McDonnell converted two points
for Louth and Laois had a tally of four points in
the first half. At the interval Louth were ahead
by six points as Gillian McDonnell finished the
half with a hat-trick.

Again
Louth got off to a great start in the second half
and Gillian McDonnell again was on form and this
time passed to Kate Flood who made no mistake in
hitting the back of the Laois net, putting Louth
further ahead. However, Laois responded immediately
and got the ball up the field and once again found
the back of the Louth net, putting them within six
points of Louth. Louths Lizzie Butterly then scored
a point for Louth followed by a point from Kate
Flood for Louth. Laois responded with two points.
Clare McCann scored a point for Louth and once again
Laois found the back of the Louth net leaving only
two points in it with five or six minutes to go.
Laois were now putting it up to Louth and were fighting
hard for every ball. Louth made some positional
changes and some substitutions also. However it
was Louth who got the edge as Gillian McDonnell
converted a free putting Louth three points ahead.
Then with a minute to go, in true captain style,
Aoife Byrne converted a free, putting the ball over
the bar and securing Louth a place in the Leinster
semi final in two weeks time.

The Louth team played extremely well and really
have done their county proud in reaching the semi
final of the Leinster A Championship against a team
who would have been favourites to win the game.
