Major New Sponsorship Deal launched By Fr Liam Kelleher Castlelands Construction was officially revealed as the new sponsor of Cork Ladies Football at the Carrigoon GAA Sportsgrounds in Mallow on Monday. Castlelands Construction have penned a deal, to sponsor Cork Ladies Football for the next two years with a substantial five figure investment per annum. This is the largest sponsorship deal in the history of ladies county football and is further proof of the appeal of the game not only in Cork but across the length and breadth of the country. Cork have dominated ladies football over the past few years winning the Senior All-Ireland and National League titles in 2005 and 2006. Cork are also the reigning All-Ireland champions at both Minor and under-14 level and lost out to Dublin in last year’s under-16 All-Ireland final. Castlelands have played an active role in grassroots GAA in Mallow where they provided funding of 8 million to assist in providing what is surely one of the finest GAA facilities in the country at Mallow GAA Club and now they have invested in one of the leading forces in Ladies Football. Tom O’ Sullivan, Castlelands Construction said, “We are fiercely proud of our strong roots within the community, particularly in Mallow but also throughout Cork and we are delighted to be getting involved with Cork Ladies Football. At the announcement of the new sponsorship deal, Tom Luddy, Chairperson of the Cork Ladies Football Council said, “The investment made by Castlelands Construction in Ladies Football in Cork is a testament to the success of our county teams at all levels of the game and with the support of Castlelands we are much better placed to maintain that success by providing the very best for all our representative teams.” There are 56 Ladies Football Clubs in Cork with over 10,000 members. Cork are the reigning All-Ireland Champions at Senior, Minor and Under-14 level. Castlelands Construction was established in Mallow in 1988 by John and Elaine Barry and has become one of the most successful residential construction and development companies in Ireland. Castlelands success in Mallow has been followed by the development of major residential schemes in Kilkenny, Midleton, Cork City, Carrigaline, Whitechurch and latterly, London. Castlelands Construction currently employs over 700 people, directly or indirectly and build some 700 houses per annum. They have recently expanded into the UK and will shortly be undertaking a landmark 27 storey apartment development in London’s Docklands. Cork tackle Kerry in Senior Championship Cork Seniors travel to a Kerry venue on Saturday to take on the Kingdom ladies, in the Munster Senior Championship. Both teams will be seeking redemption from recent reverses. Cork are still smarting after their shock defeat to Mayo in the Suzuki League Semi-final, while Kerry were shocked by Waterford in the first round of the Championship.
