Meath Ladies Preview: U14s Leinster Final

Meath Ladies Under 14s will attempt to continue the recent string of victories of the Meath Ladies GAA with a trip to Clane next Sunday 8th May in their Leinster ‘B’ Final against Wicklow. Before the competition started Meath had asked to be graded at the top level but last year’s form was deemed too weak by the Leinster Fixtures Committee so Meath were staying where they were. In the earlier rounds of the competition – Meath got just two games – a home fixture against their finalists Wicklow and an away trip to Longford. Meath under 14 manager, Michael Griffin and his management team have done great work with this Meath team and both games were tackled with success. This panel of players have learnt a huge amount since they started back in February and will be no doubt take this knowledge into next Sunday’s decider.

Players for this panel are drawn from 15 clubs in the county and have been committed to the cause since January. En masse they are largely the group of players who performed well at the Leinster under 12 Blitzes of two years ago – showing that Meath’s development system is working well. Captain of the team is Sarah O’Connor from the Donaghmore-Ashbourne club and she will have the honour of leading her team out next Sunday. When they played Wicklow in the round robin Meath defeated the Garden County by 6-07 to 4-00 with excellent performances from Debbie Maughan, Sarah Bagnall, Amy Gilsenan, Katie Moran and the outstanding Aoife Flattery. However, they know that Wicklow will also have improved so they will not go into the fixture lightly and will be determined to give it their all.

An exciting weekend of football for Meath Ladies is in store!!
