Milltown Ladies win Connacht Junior Sevens The inaugural Connaught Ladies Junior Footballs sevens was hosted by Barna GAA club on Saturday the 17th of September. The tournament was well supported with clubs representing all five counties in Connaught. The teams were divided into four groups with the winners entering the Cup semifinals whilst the second placed team entered the shield. The opening group of matches provided much entertainment. Group one was seen by many as the proverbial “Group of Death with Milltown (Galway), Sean O’Heslins (Leitrim), Geevagh (Sligo) all competing for the one place in the cup semi finals. Whilst Group two provided its own unique entertainment when host team Barna had to contest a “45′ shoot out” (Each team had to take five 45s, and who ever scored the most points went through) with Eire Og of Roscommon. Geevagh had a brilliant first half scoring three goals and at half time it looked as though Barna would struggle further in the second half, but a tremendous second half nearly saw the host team taking the shield. In the end Geevagh were worthy winners of the shield. The Twelve Pins Cup final saw Milltown of Galway play Eire Og of Roscommon. Milltown got off to a good start in the second half and it proved impossible for a gallant Eire Og team to over take Milltowns lead. After the days activities there was a tournament banquet at the Clybaun hotel and a Disco. All those who attended had a great night. Barna GAA would like to thank Harmack Construction for sponsoring this event and would also like to thank O’Neachtain bus for the provision of a courtesy bus on the day. The Barna club are already beginning to plan for next years tournament which they hope will grow from this very successful inaugural running. Share this Article 0 0
