31 July 2014 Minors Take Centre Stage for weekend Action Share this Article 0 0 0 Shares! 0 Shares! This weekend the LGFA All Ireland Minor finals take centre stage as the Minor A & B Finals take place along with the first of the TG4 Ladies Senior Football Championship round 2 Qualifiers. Saturday, August 2nd All Ireland Minor B Championship Final Offaly vTipperary Crettyard GAA Club, 2pm (M.Kenny) Offaly and Tipperary will get this weekend’s action underway in the Minor ‘B’ Championship Final at Crettyard on Saturday. Offaly have battled hard to reach the decider and have definitely improved as the championship has progressed. Good things have been expected from this Tipperary team who are brimming full of talent. For Tipperary a lot will be expected of Aishling Moloey who has long been picked out as a future star, she is one of a number of players that starred for Colaiste Dun Iascaigh who reached two Post Primary School’s All Ireland Finals earlier this year. Sunday, August 4th TG4 Ladies Senior Football Championship Round 2 Qualifier Donegal v Kerry Birr, 4pm (T. McShea) *Match to be televised live on TG4 Donegal will come into this fixture as underdogs following a League campaign that ended in relegation but their results show narrow defeats at the hands of some of the best teams in the country. Donegal were knocked out of the Ulster Championship by the eventual champions, Armagh and gave a good account of themselves on the way. In Karen Guthrie and Geraldine McLaughlin they have some players that are sure to cause Kerry plenty of problems. Kerry are ranked as one of the top teams in the country but will still be reeling from a heavy defeat at the hands of Cork in the Munster Final; however, there is a feeling that William O’Sullivan used the opportunity to experiment with his line up. Now is do or die time for this Kerry side who reached the 2012 All Ireland Final and that campaign starts on Monday in Birr. The starting 15 for Kerry is loaded with experience with the quality players like Aislinn Desmond, Cáit Lynch, inspirational captain Bernie Breen and midfield partner Emma Sherwood. However, it is in the forwards that there is huge potential with two time All star winners Louise Ní Muircheartaigh and Sarah Houlihan joined by Louise Galvin and Lorraine Scanlon. All Ireland Minor A Championship Final Galway v Cork Birr, 5:45pm (D. McEnery) *Match to be televised live on TG4 Galway return to the All Ireland Minor A Final to defend their title after last year’s dramatic victory after a replay against Dublin in 2013. Many of this Galway side played in last year’s final with three of them having already gone on to represent their county at senior level. This is a team that is loaded with talent inclding players like Megan Glynn, Emma Reaney and Ciana Ní Churraoin who will start from the bench. However, all eyes will be on their senior trio of centre half back Nicola Ward, half forward Olivia Divilly and captain Louise Ward. Remarkably all three players are from the Kilkerrin/Clonberne club but if their influence can be limited by Cork it will go a long way to sending the title back to Munster. Cork have for some time been the dominant side in underage football and they will be determined to keep things that way against this emerging Galway group. Cork have been in superb form throughout their campaign as they have easily overcome every obstacle in their path throughout their campaign to date. There is little doubt that much of Galway’s defensive strategy will be aimed at curbing the influence of senior star, Eimear Scally who is a super footballer. On the opposite side of the half forward line is Mairead Corkery, younger sister of legendary Briege, who is a dynamic player, in the inside line the Boherbue duo of Julie Dennehy and Evie Casey are also extremely dangerous attackers. This has the potential to be a classic encounter between two of the most talented teams to come through this grade in recent years. Share this Article 0 0
