Kerry 2-11
Monaghan 1-16

Monaghan were made to work very hard to earn the points in this Bord Gáis NFL Round 6 encounter. Kerry facing relegation and under new management gave Monaghan one of their toughest games to date.

Kerry started off much the brighter and had 1-3 up before Monaghan secured their first score after seven minutes. Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh, Patricia Dennehy and Sarah Houlihan pointed and this was followed by a well taken goal by the Laura O’Sullivan.Monaghan gradually started to work their way back with points from Niamh Kindlon, Edel Byrne, Cathriona McConnell and Ellen McCarron. Laura Mc Eneaney was introduced and with her first touch of the ball and she had in the back of the Kerry net, Monaghan started to gain in confidence now and with great work led the half time score 1-10 to 1-6.

However Kerry once again made the better start to the half and an opening goal by Sarah Houlihan was followed up by points from Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh, Debbie Murphy and Houlihan and Kerry now led 2-9 to 1-10. Monaghan showed true grit and determination and got themselves right back into the game, and following a further two points by Kerry the teams were level at 2-11 to 1-14 with seven minutes remaining but then Monaghan showed their fitness and skill to score the final two points from the experienced Niamh Kindlon to secure the victory.
