Monaghan SFC Semi Finals ALL Ireland senior champions Donaghmoyne begin their defence of the title on Thursday (7:30pm) against Emyvale in the Monaghan SFC semi final in St Oliver Plunkett Park, Emyvale. The Fontenoys are aiming for an eighth county title in a row but face a tough assignment against the ever improving Emyvale side. Under the guidance of Dubliner Peter Clarke, Emyvale defeated their opponents in the league earlier in the year but did suffer a very heavy defeat at the same stage of the championship last year. Donaghmoyne went on from that opening round victory to go all the way to county, Ulster and All Ireland success. Both sides are back boned by a number of county players. Emyvale will be looking to players such as twins Ciara and Aoife McAnespie, the McNally sisters Therese, Una, Grainne and Brenda along with Nicola Fahy and Hannah Bowe to drive them to victory. Donaghmoyne will hope Sharon Courtney, Amanda Casey, Catriona McConnell and Majella Woods are all on the top of their game for a match that has all the ingredients to serve up a very tasty dish and one that is sure to not only attract a large Monaghan following but interest throughout Ulster and further afield. The second semi final will see Magheracloone host Monaghan Harps on Saturday evening in Magheracloone. The Mitchell’s claimed the Intermediate title last year but lost out in the Ulster decider. However, they have been hit with injuries to key stars Niamh Kindlon and Edel Byrne and the loss of both former All-Stars is a cruel blow. They will be looking strong performances from county star Christina Reilly along with Ciara McGuinness, Edel Garagn, Susan McCahey and Aoife Byrne. Monaghan Harps, were defeated in last years decider and will be hoping to make a return. Under new management the town side will travel confident of overcoming the home side. County captain Yvonne Connell and Sinead McCooey will be central if they are to come out on top. Other players key for the Harps will be Slainey Murray, Alison and Jennifer Treanor along with Ashling McCabe. Share this Article 0 0
