Moynalvey Ladies Goals make the Difference

This was a must win game for both teams in this round 4 encounter to avoid bottom of the table status. As Donaghmore Ashbourne travelled to Moynalvey late Sunday evening it was clear from the first whistle both teams were well up for the match. It was a tough, physical and hard fought contest between the two sides looking to make a statement in this year’s championship. The old line ‘’goals win matches’’ was probably the biggest difference between the two sides when Moynalvey hit one goal in each half.

No team ever looked like running away with the game. At times Ashbourne made some great passages of play and some of their point scoring has to be merited. On the other side Moynalvey moved the ball well and had a great work ethic of moving the ball quickly through the hands and working it between players to open up the Ashbourne defence. Two kicks of the ball separated the sides at half time Moynalvey 1-7 D/Ashbourne 0-6.

 

 

Moynalvey seemed to switch off for periods in the second and Ashbourne dominated this lapse in concentration hitting 3 points without reply. Some fine saves from Celine Harnan kept the home sides noses in the game. The killer blow came 10 minutes from the final whistle when a fine ball in from Lia Branigan was taken superbly by Eileen Conneely and she made no mistake in finishing it to the back of the net and guaranteeing the home side there first victory of the championship.

 

 

Best for Moynalvey on the evening were Tara Smith (1-4), Aideen Smith, Louise Donoghue (0-2), Rachel Pender and Eileen Conneely (1-0).
