NAOMH
FIONNBARRA 2-9 ROCKBÁN 2-2

Naomh Fionnbarra were in a league of their own, in this Evening
Echo U14C championship semi final in Carrignavar on Thursday night.
The fluency they exhibited was textbook, using the hand pass to
great effect which Rockbán found hard to counteract. It appeared
they had a player in support with ever sweep forward they made
and Rockbán simply couldn’t handle it. Fionnbarra opened the scoring
with a point from Gobnet Twomey and continued to do so with Leanne
Kearney at midfield running the show. The mid Cork side managed
two points from Ann Marie O’Sullivan and Brid Brosnan before the
quarter mark but with two minutes remaining Emma O’Driscoll found
the net having received a superb cross field pass from Coleen
Foley. Martina O’Leary added a point for Naomh Fionnbarra and
they led 0-6 1-2 at the half.

Rockban U-14 team

The
tempo was increased by the west Cork girls in the second and in
the space of four minutes had notched 1-2. Rockbán were stunned
but Aobhinn McElhinney, Michelle O’Sullivan and Coleen Foley rallied
the troops. The forwardline seemed to hit a wall with Ciara O’Riordan,
Rachel Moynihan and Louise McSweeney is championship form for
the visitors. Undoubtedly it was top scorer Leanne Kearney who
pleased the supporters with her dodging runs and total tally of
1-5. Ashling Twomey shone at full forward but it was the pacy
Gobnet Twomey who finished the job for Fionnbarra with a goal
on the 56minute. Rockbán began to apply what pressure they could
and were awarded for their efforts when Shauna Brickley broke
through the defence, gathering a pass from Foley and hitting the
net. However it was too late and the west Cork side secured their
place in the final.
