Newmarket make it two in a row

Clare Ladies Football U.16B County Final Newmarket-on-Fergus
v Kilmihil

Venue: Clareabbey

Date: Wednesday May 2nd

Newmarket Ladies footballers made it two in a row when
they defeated Kilmihil in the U-16B Clare County Championship
Final last Wednesday in Clareabbey on a glorious sunny
evening with a scoreline of 4 – 9 to 3 – 11 As the score
suggests this was a game that was pushed all the way.
Newmarket showed great skill and team play throughout
the game and had excellent work in the midfield area from
Carol O’Leary (Capt), Roisin McMahon and Jennifer Kelly
– who worked great lengths to get the ball into the in
form forward line. This ploy resulted in great scores
from Gemma McInerney, Laura McMahon & Carol Kaiser.

The Newmarket Team

In the dying minutes of the game the pressure mounted
and the Newmarket backline had to pull out all the stops
to prevent a very determind Kilmihil side from scoring
equalising points or a winning goal. Newmarket succeeded
in defending their slender lead and in the end ran out
deserving winners on the evening.

Great credit goes to the management team of Lynne McInerney,
Claire Arthur, Neil Ryan & Maire Louise Kaiser for enabling
this Newmarket team in achieveing such a great success
against a gallant Kilmihil side. Following the game James
Lafferty, Chairman of the Clare Ladies Football Board
presented the winning trophy to Newmarket’s captain the
excellent Carol O’Leary.

The celebrations begin

Newmarket Scorer’s Gemma McInerney 2-3, Laura McMahon
1-1, Carol O’Leary 0-1, Carol Kaiser 0-1, Roisin McMahon
0-2, Joanne Hartigan 0-1.
