The first round of the Ladies HEC O’Connor cup took place yesterday with some important points up for grabs in the race to Queen’s next month. In Group A of the O’Connor Cup a strong University of Limerick team had a comprehensive win over University College Dublin on a scoreline of 3-11 to 0-05. In the Giles Cup Trinity College Dublin and NUI Maynooth played out an entertaining encounter but it was the defending champions, Maynooth, that were victorious on a scoreline of 3-09 to 5-11. The other match in Group 1 paired University of Ulster Jordanstown against Mary Immaculate College Limerick but the two sides couldn’t be separated as they finished 1-09 to 2-06. Carlow Institute of Technology seized control of Group 2 thanks a dominant performance against Institute of Technology, Tralee resulting in a 6-14 to 2-06 victory.
