O’Connor Cup Weekend Draw Complete

The draw was completed today for the Ladies Higher Education Ladies Football competitions. The O’Connor Cup weekend will be hosted by Queen’s University Belfast as part of their Queen’s GAA Festival which will also include the hosting of the Ashbourne, Fitzgibbon and Sigerson Cups with the O’Connor Cup weekend bringing the festival to a close on the weekend of March 21^st/22^nd.

 

The O’Connor Cup is the centrepiece of the weekend and is currently held by tournament hosts, Queen’s University Belfast who won the competition for the first time in their history in 2013. 7 colleges were entered into the O’Connor Cup draw with the colleges being drawn into two groups with the top 2 teams from each groups going directly into the semi finals at the O’Connor Cup weekend. University College Dublin, University of Limerick, National University of Ireland Galway and last year’s beaten finalists, Dublin City University were draw in Group 1 with tournament hosts, Queens, joining University College Cork and IT Sligo in Group 2. The first fixtures will be held on February 11^th when UCD meet UL and NUIG play DCU in Group 1 whilst UCC will meet IT Sligo in group 2.

 

The Giles Cup will also feature 7 colleges which were drawn into 2 groups with Trinity College Dublin, National University of Ireland Maynooth, Ulster University of Jordanstown and Mary Immaculate College Limerick making up Group 1 with IT Carlow, IT Tralee and Athlone IT being drawn together in Group 2. The top 2 teams from each group will go directly to the Giles Cup semi finals which will be hosted as part of the O’Connor Cup weekend.

 

The final competition that will be contested as part of the O’Connor Cup weekend is the Lynch Cup. The 10 colleges in this competition were drawn into 3 groups with the top team in each group joining the British champions in the semi finals in Belfast on March 21^st. Group 1 consists of 4 colleges including CIT, DIT, WIT and DCU2. Group 2 includes NUIG2, St. Pat’s and UCD and finally Group 3 is made up of DKIT, QUB2 and UL2.
