Orchard girls overcome Fermanagh

Girls Remain On Course

Armagh
4-11 Fermanagh 1-12

Armagh had to with stand a wonderful second half comeback from
Fermanagh to book their place in this years TG4 All Ireland Junior
decider. Favourites Armagh looked like sailing into the final
as they led by ten points at the break thanks to some wonderful
football. Fermanagh opened brightly to lead by a point after ten
minutes but from there to the interval the eventual winners really
turned on the style. Goals from Aileen Mathews, Mairead Tennyson
and Patricia McEvoy helped them lead by 3-06 to 0-05 at the break.

It was a different story after the resumption as Fermanagh took
control with their defence excellent, the midfield beginning to
gain control and the expert free taking of caroline Little seen
them claw back Armagh. With just twelve minutes left the lead
was back to three points as Little fired in 1-05 in that opening
eighteen minutes, the goal from the penalty spot. The danger signs
were seen by Armagh and player of the match Mathews was on hand
to slot over two vitally important points to settle them and Mags
McAlinden ended the Fermanagh hopes with her sides forth major.

A cracking encounter where Fermanagh must get great praise for
their second half performance while Armagh showed great spirit
to hit back when the chips were down.
