Promotion the aim for Limerick, Offaly, Roscommon and Wexford in Lidl National League Finals

PLAYERS FROM THE FOUR COUNTIES GATHER AHEAD OF DIVISIONS 3 AND 4 DECIDERS

REPRESENTATIVES from the four counties set to compete in the Lidl National League Divisions 3 and 4 Finals have gathered at St Brendan’s Park in Birr, which will host the games next Sunday, April 3.

Limerick captain Róisín Ambrose, Offaly player Aoife Carey, Roscommon captain Laura Fleming and Wexford captain Róisín Murphy were present at the Offaly venue  on Wednesday (March 30) ahead of an eagerly-anticipated double-header.

At 2pm, Limerick and Offaly will meet in the Division 4 Final, followed by the Division 3 decider between Roscommon and Wexford at 4pm.

There’s plenty at stake as the winners of both games will earn the coveted silverware and promotion.

The Division 4 Final will pit last year’s beaten semi-finalists, Limerick and Offaly, against each other.

Offaly have won the Division 4 title on three previous occasions – in 2015 (when they beat Limerick), 2013 and 2004 – while a Limerick win would see them win the fourth tier competition for the second time, and first since 2016.

The sides have already met this year in the League, when Limerick ran out 3-4 to 1-6 winners in the group stages, but seasoned observers won’t be reading too much into that as the game was played in poor weather conditions.

The Division 3 Final sees Roscommon, who were beaten semi-finalists last year, up against Wexford, who suffered relegation from Division 2 in 2021.

Wexford will be aiming to repeat their 2018 heroics against Meath, when they last won the Division 3 title, and bounce back to Division 2 at the first attempt, while a Roscommon win would secure a first Division 3 crown since 2009.

Looking ahead to the games, Mícheál Naughton, President of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, said: “These should be two excellent games involving four very talented teams.

“Promotion would represent a significant step forward for the winners and the rewards on offer will ensure that we have two really competitive fixtures.

“We’ve witnessed some brilliant football to date during our 2022 Lidl National Leagues and we were delighted to bring all of the action to viewers either on TG4 or via our subscription service.

“Back in February, we were delighted to launch our 2022 National Leagues with confirmation of a four-year contract extension that will mark a decade of #SeriousSupport and take our partnership through to the conclusion of the 2025 season.

“The pledge of an additional €5m over the course of the next four years will bring total investment from Lidl to €10m in ten years of sponsorship.”

Speaking on behalf of Lidl Ireland, Chief Executive Officer, JP Scally, added: “As the title sponsor for the Lidl Ladies National Football Leagues, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish the Divisions 3 and 4 Finalists well for their matches next Sunday.

“A great deal of effort and commitment has gone into this League campaign and I have no doubt that the games will be competitive and challenging.”

Both games will be available to view live on the LGFA’s subscription service https://page.inplayer.com/lgfaseason2022/ while tickets are on sale at https://bit.ly/3LoaC6T.
