Raheny Climb4Clare

Last Saturday (27/06/15) the community of Raheny rallied together and created a fun filled, activity packed day to raise funds and create awareness for a charity called CLIMB4CLARE®. The amount raised was just over €1000. CLIMB® (Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery) is a programme for children aged between five and twelve who are experiencing the impact of a parent’s, other significant adult’s or a brother or sister’s cancer diagnosis.

The day began at 1.00pm with a family 3k walk through St.Anne’s park, starting and ending at Raheny GAA club. From 2pm to 6pm there were a range of activities such as a long puc, kick fada, tug of war, sack race, three legged race, bibs and balloon race, socks on washing line, plank and rope, cups game, rings over cones and an art table. There was also a cake sale, tuck shop, a raffle, wheel of fortune, a book sale, coffee dock, face painting and a barbecue. At 4.00pm there was also a traditional music session with John O’Brien (uilleann pipes/whistles), Brian Garvin (fiddle/bodhran), Conal Early (guitar), Gary O’Meara (banjo) and the Stack sisters (fiddle and tin whistle). From 10.30pm we had live music from Ireland’s newest band—the Ferry Cowboys. Feedback suggested that the Ferry Cowboys are Ireland’s newest Horselips or Waterboys. A fantastic night of live music was enjoyed by all.
