Sligo Notes 15.04.2013

The U14 team were out against Roscommon on Saturday last and the first obstacle to overcome was the weather.  It was a wet, damp, evening which hindered playing conditions.  Sligo were missing 2 key players but thankfully many of the subs got a run last week against Leitrim and were well able to step up to the mark and fill the gaps.  From the start it was score for score with each team fighting hard to get ahead.  It emerged a very fast game and both teams deserved a break at half time with Roscommon leading the way.  The second half commenced with Roscommon edging ahead and looking the stronger side.  They were at one point 12 points in front leaving Sligo looking like it was game over.  The Sligo girls showed the management team that they have a never-give-up attitude and ploughed on to narrow the gap putting pressure on Roscommon.  Having fought hard to make a comeback, time ran out for the Sligo side.  To sum up it was a very fast and high scoring game with both sides showing their determination to win but Roscommon had the edge and stamina to carry them to victory with a final score of 4.9 to 5.10.

The U16 County Team is preparing for their championship games and Una Clarke has kindly volunteered to assist in getting the girls together for training.  All Clubs are asked to send eligible players to the first training session on Monday night the 15th April at 6.30pm in Forthill park, Sligo.  Players that can’t attend this session and are interested in competing in this group are asked to contact Una on 0877665167 so they can be included in the text circulation for training and games going forward.  Una is hoping that some parents or other club members will join her in managing this group again any interested parties are asked to contact her.

Any Clubs that won 2012 League competitions last year are asked to return all cups, shields and trophies to the County board as soon as possible.  Please ensure these are cleaned and in good condition prior to returning them.
