The two teams involved were Geevagh and St Marys who had met on two occassions during the year and it was always going to be a close game. Considering the weather up until the 14th had been consistently raining it turned out to be a glorious evening for the final. As the referee Dermot Walsh threw in the ball it was Geevagh who were the first to put a score on the board in the first minute, but that was quickly followed by St Marys seconds later. Then Geevagh managed to blast a goal into Marys net in the 2nd minute, again St Marys levelled in the 3rd minute by putting the ball into the back of Geevaghs net. This was how the game went, score for score, for the first 13mins, until St Marys pulled off some fine goals. Geevagh continued to put points on the board, but by half time St Marys were leading by 5-3 to Geevagh 1-5. As the second half started it was St Marys who got the first score but within seconds Geevagh matched that score. However Geevagh managed to gain the upper hand for the next 16mins with some superb scores from their forward line. The game entered the final ten minutes with Geevagh 1 point ahead. This period of the game was very tense for both sides and the spectators on the sideline not to mention the managers. But St Marys fought back at this time and played with great team effort to eventually win the match. The Final score was 9-6 to 6-6 to St Marys. History was made on this day for St. Mary’s as this was their first title at underage level and the clebrated as if they had won an All Ireland!!! Share this Article 0 0
