Southern Gaels head for Feile Southern Gaels will be seeking further glory as they head to Leitrim this weekend as Kerry’s representative for the Annual Feile competition. The South Kerry outfit had too much for Listowel in the County decider back in early May at they won the final 4-6 to 0-4. These particular youngsters took gold in the Community games just two years and they have every chance of progressing out of Group D which contains Aughavas and Aughawillan ( both from Leitrim) and Cork side St Val’s. 2006 winners The Banner from Clare will most likely await at the semi-final stage late on Saturday evening and should they make it to the final on Sunday in Carrick-on Shannon a late return to Kerry will be on the cards as the final has a 4p.m throw-in. The southern peninsula club will travel to Athlone on Thursday before hooking up with their host club Aughavas by mid afternoon on Friday. The highlight for many attending this three day gathering will be Friday night’s parade that all sides competing participate in with each club displaying their own club colours and flag. There’s a real feel good factor with regards to juvenile ladies football in Kerry at the moment and with Megan O’connell ( player of the game against Cork in the Provincial U-14 decider) and Leanne Curran ( she kicked five points from play against Cork in Listowel) as well as county panellists Aisling O’Sullivan, Bronagh O’Sullivan and Karina Curran amongst their ranks there’s every chance another Feile title could be heading to the deep South late on Sunday evening.
