16 October 2017 A Spectactular Lidl National Gaelic4Mothers&Others Blitz Day Share this Article 0 0 0 Shares! 0 Shares! On Saturday 14th October we held yet another hugely successful Lidl National Gaelic4Mothers&Others Blitz Day. This event is unique in every way and brings together women from all corners of Ireland to a celebration of fun, recreational ladies football. This year the event was once again fully subscribed with a large number of teams on the waiting list highlighting the impact that the programme is having in clubs across the country with many of these participants now volunteering in the clubs also. The weather stayed dry and contributed to the amazing atmosphere throughout the day. Teams were arriving from early morning with tweets and facebook messages being sent in advance of their pending involvement in the blitz. Many landed early to soak in the great atmosphere that this day brings with it getting pictures taken or shopping in our merchandise village while many others were getting their faces painted or practicing their skills in the Lidl fun zone! Once teams registered and received their fixtures for the day along with their customary LGFA gift, it was time to get proceedings under way with our mass warm up. Led by the extremely enthusiastic Lei Portalanza, Bokwa Ireland, and her team they put all the participants, coaches, coordinators and referees through their paces. The mass warm upnsaw over 2000 people exercising together and having fun and is truly a sight to behold! After the frantic and fun warm up session, it was down to the business of the day as all the teams transitioned in an orderly fashion to their respective pitches, 17 in all, to play some football. Players got to showcase their skills throughnnon-competitive games which were played in great spirit as players laughed, joked, danced and played their way through the day. There were even sights of match officials joining in with fancy dress. When the games came to a close, a lot of tired bodies made their way back to the club house where they were entertained by the band Ultrasound who themselves were dressed as priests on stage! They rocked the party and the players could let their hair down and enjoy the post match entertainment and eat some BBQ to refuel the bodies. A DJ then brought the huge group in attendance into the early evening before the remaining teams moved upstairs for karaoke for the rest of the night. The winning teams for fancy dress were St Peregrine’s (Dublin), Dunamaggin (Kilkenny) and Mountrath (Laois). We would like to thank our sponsors Lidl, all the players and coaches, Lei and Bokwa Ireland and the 2FM road castor from making this day such a great success. A special mention must go to the many volunteers that give up their spare time to be with us on the day and without them this day would not be possible. In addition, to our two host clubs Naomh Mearnóg and St. Sylvester’s for once again having the venues in top class shape.
