Sponsorship boost for TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Junior Football champions Limerick

Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel & Spa have been confirmed as sponsors of both the Limerick ladies football and camogie panels for 2019.  The announcement was made at an event held recently at the four-star Adare hotel celebrating Limerick Women in Sport, past, present and future.

Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel & Spa has a long association with sport which has seen the Fitzgerald family invest almost €750,000 into local, county and provincial sporting initiatives over the past 35 years.

As well as financial support, the 2019 sponsorships will also see the hotel partner with both panels in a way that will enhance players’ training regimes and overall team performance.

Each player will be given unrestricted access to the hotel’s state-of-the-art gym and 20-metre swimming pool to help them build and maintain fitness levels, ending the tradition of women players having to pay for their own individual gym memberships in stark contrast to their male counterparts who have long benefitted from free gym membership.

The hotel will also host training weekends during the year and create nutritionally balanced menus specially optimised for performance players.

Speaking at the event, Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel & Spa proprietor Mary Fitzgerald said that it was an honour to be able to build on their relationship with Limerick Ladies Football and Camogie.

“We are delighted to be able to continue our relationship with both Limerick Ladies Football and Camogie in a way that gives each and every player an equal opportunity for success on and off the field.

“We are long-time supporters of Limerick sport and are so pleased that we are able to add to our relationship with both panels by making the hotel’s facilities available to them to assist with individual and team training.

“This is our fifth year supporting the Limerick Camogie panel and our second year supporting Limerick Ladies football.  It is extremely important to us that women in sport are afforded the same opportunities and recognition as men are in sport and tonight’s event was held specifically to celebrate the success Limerick sportswomen have enjoyed over the years and to look forward to future successes across all sporting disciplines.”

Limerick Ladies Football captain, Cathy Mee said:

“As a panel of county players, we are thrilled with the sponsorship package being provided by Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel & Spa.  Preparation and commitment are two key attributes of success at inter county level.  As we look towards further success, this player focused sponsorship greatly assists us in our preparations, so that we can represent Limerick as well as possible in 2019.”

Limerick Camogie captain, Caoimhe Costello said:

“We are extremely lucky to be sponsored by Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel & Spa. They have played a huge role in the development of our senior Camogie squad and have allowed us to put systems in place both on and off the field that would not be possible without their backing and support.  Providing what the girls deserve is their number one objective and they have always gone above and beyond in making this happen over the last 5 years.”

The celebration of Limerick Women in Sport held at Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel & Spa and hosted by Sinead Bradbury, nutritionist and founder of Body & Kind, brought together local women from across a wide range of sporting disciplines to celebrate individual and collective sporting achievements and to inspire future successes.

A panel discussion took place with Niamh Briggs (Ireland Rugby and winning captain of the 2015 Six Nations), Joy Neville (former Ireland Rugby Grand Slam winner and current Elite IRFU Rugby Referee), Mary O’Connor (20×20 and CEO Federation of Irish Sport), Grainne Barry (Stats LLC and founder of SportsTech), Dr Mary Shire (Vice-President of Research at the University of Limerick), Aislinn Connolly (former Galway Camogie player and All-Star winner) and Mary Fitzgerald (Proprietor, Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel & Spa) which explored the relationship between sport and success both on and off the field.

Other special guests included Marion Graham (Chairperson Munster Camogie and national Vice-President), Fiona Doyle (Swimming), Ciara Neville (Athletics – sprinter), Rebecca Barry (Ireland Hockey), Fiona Reidy (Ireland Rugby), Martina McMahon (Handball), Lucy O’Donnell (Cyclocross), Mayor of Limerick James Collins, Declan Hannon (Limerick Hurling All-Ireland Winning Captain), Tom Neville TD and Niall Collins TD.

Over the last number of years Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel & Spa has joined the ranks of Carton House and Fota Island Resort in being recognised as aCentre of Sporting Excellence for hurling, camogie, ladies and men’s football with teams from as far away as Armagh choosing to use the hotel and its facilities for training weekends and pre- and post-match stays.
