23 April 2017 St. Laurence’s Hosts first ever LGFA Level 2 Coaching Course Share this Article 0 0 0 Shares! 0 Shares! St. Laurence’s Athy played host to the Ladies Gaelic Football Association Level 2 Coaching Course this weekend. The course was delivered to existing LGFA coaching tutors allowing those same tutors to continue to upskill new coaches when they go on to deliver future courses in the coming months. LGFA National Development Officer, William Harmon, was joined by Dublin ladies goalkeeping legend and LGFA tutor, Cliodhna O’Connor with support from highly respected Sport Ireland Coaching Services manager Liam Moggan to deliver the course. This programme builds on the Level 1 course which saw an emphasis placed on areas such as nutrition and hydration, strength and conditioning along with coaching skills whereas the new Level 2 course brings the focus back onto the sport itself and helping to equip coaches with the tools to allow them to develop the game of ladies gaelic football. The programme specifically focuses on helping coaches to identify patterns of play and gives coaches an understanding as to what is required by the players prior to adopting these new tactics. The course also helps coaches to identify the skills and qualities required by each individual player to institute the new plays and how best to identify the players most suitable to fulfil the required roles. It also enables courses to tailor the training specific to the needs of their teams. The new course will be rolled out nationwide in the coming months but the feedback from this course has been extremely positive and our coaching tutors are looking forward to delivering this content. We were also delighted to have Sinead Commins, Offaly Ladies manager, in attendance for the weekend and her feedback with also be invaluable. The Level 2 will not only help coaches see how patterns of play are selected, but also the requirements of identifying the skills needed for those patterns and how best to coach them to fulfil these roles. It is an extremely practical course. Further details on the LGFA Coaching Level 2 will be available on www.ladiesgaelic.ie over the coming weeks.
