ALL IRELAND U19 A FINAL St. Louis, Monaghan 5-11 Presentation College, Tuam 4-4 Personal tallies of 3-2 and 1-6 from Bonnie Fleming and Therese Mc Nally respectively helped St. Louis Convent, Monaghan to the All-Ireland U19 title at Longford yesterday. As holders Tuam entered the game hot favourites but they had no answer to the superior team play of the Ulster champions. After an even first quarter St. Louis led by 1-2 to 1-1. Presentation made the better start with Edel Concannon sending over after 25 seconds. The brilliant Fleming equalised with St. Louis’s next attack. Una Carroll put the Galway side in front again with a point from a free. The Convent then got their first goal when Fleming latched on to an Aine Mulligan knock down and buried the ball to the net. Therese Mc Nally then added another point before Tuam’s Helen Mc Hugh fired in a goal after a defensive error by the Convent. In the second quarter it was all Louis. Yvonne Connell was upended in the square and Aine Mulligan dispatched the penalty with great style. Four points followed from Fleming, Connell, Mulligan and Mc Nally to give the Monaghan side a halt time lead 2-6 to 1-2. Orla Mc Carville receiving the U19 schools cup from Geraldine Giles St. Louis had a dream start to the second half as Bonnie Fleming scored a goal with their first attack. Tuam battled away and full forward Sheila Fitzgerald sent over just before Una Carroll scored the first of her three goals. Therese Mc Nally who was everywhere sent over three consecutive points from play. Fitzgerald scored another point for Tuam, which was quickly cancelled by Helen Hughes. Over the next five minutes there were four goals scored. Firstly Bonnie Fleming caught a high centre, beat three Galway defenders and crashed the ball to the net. Tuam replied with an unstoppable drive from Una Carroll which keeper Dolores Gillanders had no chance with. The lively Therese Mc Nally then finished another of her powerful runs with a super goal. Carroll finished her hatrick but it was much to little to late. The Convent finished with a flurry, which seen Mc Nally and Bronagh Mc Aree both send over. This result is truly remarkable, as St. Louis does not have a football pitch. The team have been training at two venues in Monaghan since November and many of the players have missed their buses home due to the commitment. Now that the school have won the title the sacrifice has all been worth it. St. Louis – D.Gillanders, G.Mullen, C.Murray, G.Treanor, N.Sherry, O.Mc Carville, G.
