Fr Murphy’s v St Nathys VHI All Ireland Intermediate Club
Championship

It was a great game at Ruislip on Saturday, with Sligo and
Connacht champions, St Nathys racing into a three point lead
without reply from Fr Murphy’s, then the home team began to
dominate the game everywhere but on the scoreboard, Claire
Towey, their captain and corner back was having the game of
her life as were the entire defence, Austrailian Narelle Saward
put over two points for the Murphy’,however Nathy’s did get
through for a great goal, leading 1-08 to 0-03 they looked
very comfortable at the break.

It was a different Fr Murphy’s team at the restart, they absolutely
threw everything at St Nathy’s, with centre back Sinead Daly
driving the team onwards and scoring a point herself, Emma
Taylor, English born with no Irish connection was causing
problems for the Sligo girls at Centre forward and she flicked
an excellent point, here fellow forwards Anne Marie O Dwyer
and Shauna Keogh were also dangerous, but most of the damage
was done by Tyrone girl Shauna McMenamin, who helped herself
to 1-02, the score was now St Nathy’s 1-08 to Fr Murphy’s
1-06 and the game was on, the Nathy’s sideline were anxious
and had to bring on county player Noelle Gormley, who was
just returning from injury, she did the trick scoring a good
goal within five minutes, however Murphy’s came forward in
waves ,bringing the score St Nathy’s 2-10 Fr Murphy’s 1-10
with just minutes remaining, unfortunately for the home side
Nathy’s hit a goal at the end to leave them winners on a scoreline
of 3-12 to 1-11, but all agreed it was a fine game of football
the game was excellently refereed by Ciaran Groome and FR.Murphy’s
Sinead Daly was awarded the player of the match trophy.
