SUZUKI NFL DIV.4 FINAL MATCH PREVIEW SUZUKI LADIES NATION FOOTBALL LEAGUE FINAL WICKLOW V WESTMEATH O TOOLE PARK, 2.00pm Wicklows senior ladies footballers have one more hurdle to cross if they are to crowned Suzuki NFL Div. Four champions, guarding that hurdle are the ladies from WestMeath. Despite having a poor start to their league campaign the girls from the lake county have turned in a couple of good performances of late, notably a three point semi-final win over Carlow, who would have been favourites to meet the garden county ladies in the final. Wicklows inspirational captain Aishling OhAnnaidh will lead her side out on Sunday next, hoping that all of the hard work that the girls and the management team have put in over the winter months will pay dividends on the day. Aishling commented that “having tasted defeat in last years final against Offaly, the girls know the sound of coming second, and they will not want to experience that silence in the dressing room again this year”. OhAnnaidh believes that this present team can go that extra step and says “once we step on to the field its up to us to perform as a team, like we did against the Dubs in the semi-final,if every player gives one hundred percent for sixty plus minutes we will not be far off the mark at the final whistle”. Aishling along with Bray Emmets team mate Eadaoine Lenihan, and An Tochars Chrissie Shortt, played with this years UCD’s OConnor cup winning side, and she admitted that “winning the league would be a a great boost for ladies football, a sport that has really blossomed over the past number of years in the Garden County, and hopefully a positive result on Sunday will ensure its future well in to the future”. Wicklows path to the final was as follows. Wicklow 4-11 Westmeath 1-08. Wicklow 1-08 Carlow 1-07 Dublin(c) 2-06 Wicklow 2-06. Kilkenny 1-09 Wicklow 2-11 Semi-final Wicklow 3-13 Dublin 0-09 Final.
