The TESCO Homegrown Teams of the League in association with the Irish Daily Star were named today at a gala event in Croke Park. The TESCO HomeGrown National Football League’s got underway on Saturday, February 3rd and continued right up to May 11th when the finals were contested in Dublin’s Parnell Park. The Teams of the League were selected for each of the 4 Divisions with the best XV players chosen in their positions. Nominations were received from managers after each round of the league with the best 3 players from the opposition’s team receiving a vote. Those players with the most votes in their position were then selected in the TESCO Homegrown Team of the League for their Division. The 4 Teams feature 60 players from 27 counties. Champions, Cork dominate the Division 1 selection with five players on the side including the league’s top scorer, Valerie Mulcahy. Beaten finalists, Mayo have four player on the squad including the great Cora Staunton. Monaghan have 3 representatives whilst Meath, Donegal and Laois have one player each. The Division 2 Team of the League has fiveplayers from Kerry whilst the team that they defeated in the final, Galway have four representatives. Beaten semi-finalists Westmeath are represented by two players with Clare, Fermanagh, Kildare and Cavan each having one player on the selection. Down overcame Armagh after a thrilling end to the Division 3 Final and both counties are represented by three players on the Division 3 selection. Beaten semi-finalists, Longford and Tipperary have two players each on the team as do Leitrim. Wexford, Wicklow and Sligo all have one player each in the team. Offaly and Roscommon produced one of the games of the year when they met in the Division 4 Final at the Gaelic Ground in Limerick as the curtain raiser to the Under 21 final, both teams have 4 players on the Division 4 Team of the League. All Ireland Junior Champions Antrim have 3 players in the selection as do Limerick whilst Louth have 1 player in the team. Speaking at the ‘TESCO Homegrown Teams of the League in Association with the Irish Daily Star’ announcement the LGFA President, Pat Quill, said ‘The TESCO Homegrown National Football Leagues provided us with some great moments again in 2013. There are plenty of examples of individual performances in all 4 divisions and it is great that all of the players, throughout all of the divisions, are recognised on this stage.
