TESCO HomeGrown NFL Round 4 round up

CATHY Donnelly bagged two second half goals for Tyrone as they won the big relegation six-pointer on Sunday in Division 1 of the Tesco Homegrown Ladies National Football League.

Tyrone collected their first points of the season with a comprehensive 4-15 to 1-8 victory over Meath at Healy Park, Omagh.

Meath raced into an early 0-4 to 0-1 lead but Joline Donnelly’s goal restored parity for Tyrone.

Lycrecia Quinn netted a second goal and at half-time, Tyrone were seven points clear, 2-6 to 0-5. Cathy Donnelly opened up a quickfire brace for rampant Tyrone as they moved 4-11 to 0-5 clear within 12 minutes of the restart.

Bridgetta Lynch pulled a goal back for Meath but the pointless Royals are now cut adrift at the bottom of the table.

In Fermoy, Cork went goal crazy as the All-Ireland champions walloped Dublin by 6-13 to 2-8. Lethal forward Valerie Mulcahy helped herself to 4-2 and Rhona Ní Bhuachalla scored 2-3 as the Leesiders blitzed hapless Dublin. Cork were 5-3 to 0-2 clear with just 19 minutes on the watch and they led by 5-6 to 0-5 at half-time. Lyndsey Davey and Natalia Hyland scored second half goals for Dublin.

Elsewhere, Laois claimed a third win from four matches as they chiseled out a hard-fought 4-9 to 2-10 victory over Mayo in Stradbally. Ciara Burke and Martha Kirwan scored early goals as Laois opened up a 2-3 to 0-0 lead within eight minutes. Laura Marie Maher added another Laois goal before the break as the hosts led by 3-4 to 1-6, with Deirdre Doherty on target for Mayo’s goal. Laois goalkeeper Ciamh Dollard saved Cora Staunton’s penalty early in the second half but Mayo did score a second goal from Aileen Gilroy, before Maher scored her second goal late on to make the game safe for Laois.
