The TESCO Homegrown Post Primary School’s Finals were launched today at TESCO Extra in Kinnegad. Captain’s from each of the 12 competing schools came face to face for the first time before they meet again on the football field to decide the destination of the prestigious Post Primary School’s Titles. There are finals in both Junior and Senior grades with each grade separated into A, B and C divisions. The first of the 6 finals will take place this weekend when the Senior A,B and C finals take place followed a week later by the three junior finals. The first of the Post Primary School’s Finals takes place on Friday when St. Joseph’s Foxford meet Loreto St. Michael’s in the Senior C Final in Ardagh at 2pm. The other 2 finals take place on Saturday, April 5th. Colaiste Dun Iascaigh from Cahir in Tipperary meet Colaiste Iosagain from Stilorgan, Dublin at 2pm in Dr. Cullen Park, Carlow in the Senior A Final. The Tipperary school are looking to create a little bit of history as they compete in both the Senior A Final and will reappear in an All Ireland Final a week later when they also contest the Junior A final with 10 players featuring for both teams. However, there is an historic aspect for the Stillorgan girls too as they aim to become the first Dublin school to win the Senior A title. Also at 2pm on Saturday Scoil Criost Ri from Portlaoise will clash with Glenamaddy in the TESCO Homegrown PPS Senior B Final. This meeting can truly be classed as a meeting of champions as both schools won All Ireland Titles last year. Portlaoise were the 2013 Senior C Champions whilst they face a Glenamaddy team who last year claimed the Junior A title. Scoil Criost Ri will again seek inspiration from their manager, Geraldine O’Flynn, who is a Ladies Football legend having won 8 All Ireland titles with Cork as well as being named Player of the Year in 2013. However, Glenamaddy have plenty of heroes of their own to look to including the Ward twins, Nicola and Louise, both of whom are already involved with the Galway senior Ladies squad. Speaking at the launch LGFA President, Pat Quill, said ‘The TESCO Homegrown Post Primary School’s Finals are a big occasion in the Ladies Football Calendar. The school’s finals unite players from clubs who would often face each other in local club matches, they have the capacity to unite rival players and create lifelong friendships. The quality of the school’s finals is always undeniably high and I look forward to seeing that trend continue this year.’ Lynn Moynihan, Local Marketing Manager for competition sponsors, TESCO Homegrown, said ‘Lynn Moynihan , Local Marketing Manager, Tesco Ireland, commented, “Tesco is delighted to again be supporting the All Ireland Post Primary Schools Championships, the pinnacle of the schools calendar.
