The TESCO Homegrown Teams of the League were yesterday announced at a gala event held in Croke Park. The awards which are presented at the end of the TESCO Homegrown National Football Leagues every year recognise the immense contribution of the players to their counties cause throughout the year. No fewer than 28 counties are recognised on the four divisional teams with players coming from each of the four provinces. Also on the night, the TESCO Homegrown/Irish Daily Star Manager of the League award was presented to legendary manager, Eamonn Ryan who again guided Cork to the Division 1 title making it their second year in succession claiming the crown. Selection for the 4 teams is based on nominations from the managers within each division. No manager was allowed to select their own players and they submitted their selection of the best players from the opposing team after each round. Players with the highest number of nominations in their positions were then selected on the Team of the League for their Division. After producing a fantastic final Cork and Dublin are both recognised with 4 places each on the Division 1 selection. Siobhán McGrath, Sinead Goldrick, Noelle Healy and Lyndsey Davey are selected from the beaten finalists with Angela Walsh, Bríd Stack, Briege Corkery and Annie Walsh making up the Rebelette quartet. Ciamh Dollard is Laois’s representative in goal whilst Cáit Lynch and Denise Hallisey are the Kingdom’s two representatives in the half back line. Fiona McHale is selected following another great season for Mayo and is joined by her team mate Cora Staunton. Monaghan’s Cora Courtney is selected at centre half forward with Tyrone’s Gemma Begley completing the team in corner forward. The Division 2 selection is dominated by Galway which reflects their unbeaten campaign. Armagh manager, James Daly was also rewarded for guiding the Orchard county to their TESCO Homegrown NFL Division 3 crown as he was awarded the TESCO Homegrown/Irish Daily Star Manager of the Month Award for May making it a great day for the Daly family as his daughter, Katie, was the goalkeeper for the Division 3 Team of the League and also celebrated her birthday on the night. There was more good news for Armagh as their captain, Caroline O’Hanlon, became the only player ever to be selected on every Team of the League since it was first presented in 2009. Speaking at the presentation LGFA President, Pat Quill said ‘I am delighted to see so many great players from no fewer than 28 counties represented from the 4 Divisions. I am also very pleased to see Eamonn Ryan receive the TESCO Homegrown/Irish Daily Star Manager of the League award, Eamonn has been an incredible servant to the game and is a most deserving recipient of the accolade.
