06 May 2015 TESCO National Football Finals Launched Share this Article 0 0 0 Shares! 0 Shares! The 2015 TESCO National Football League Finals were launched today at Parnell Park. The finals will take place at the Donnycarney venue on Saturday next, May 9th, when the Division 3 final between Waterford and Sligo gets the action underway. This will be followed by the Division 2 final between Armagh and Donegal and the final match, the Division 1 decider, will be contested by Cork and Galway. The Division 3 final gets the action underway when Sligo meet Waterford at 12:15pm. Waterford will enter the match as favourites as they are the only team in any of the 4 divisions of the league to maintain a 100% record. Sligo will be full of confidence after defeating their neighbours, Leitrim in their semi final meeting and will relish the tag of underdogs. Armagh and Donegal meet in the division 2 final at 2:00pm. Donegal topped the table after the group stages and in Geraldine McLaughlin they boast one of the finest attacking talents in the country. Armagh, who were only promoted to the 2nd Division in 2014, will be very familiar with the surroundings of Parnell Park as they return to this venue for the 3rd year in a row. The Division 1 final gets underway at 3:45pm and pitts Cork against Galway. Cork, who are aiming for their third Division 1 title in a row, will be the favourites as they continue to the standard bearers for the sport. Galway are a team with a great mix of youth and experience as they continue to make great strides following their promotion from Division 2 last year, this is the 4th year in a row that Galway will play in a league final so there is plenty of experience in their ranks. In attendance at the launch today were the captains of all 6 competing counties along with Lynn Moynihan, brand manager of TESCO Ireland and LGFA president Marie Hickey. Speaking about the finals the LGFA president said ‘We are looking forward to three extremely good and competitive matches on Saturday in Parnell Park. These are amongst the most important fixtures in the Ladies Football calendar and mean so much to the players that are competing on the field.
