TG4’S UNDERDOGS RETURNS New series starts on Thursday 20 October on TG4 @ 10pm “Underdogs” is back – Last year’s team beat the All-Ireland Football Champions, Kerry. This year, a team of hurlers will be put together to take on the mighty Kilkenny on their home turf. It’s the ‘Dogs against the Cats….. Last year, the Underdogs capped a hugely successful series with a sensational victory over the All-Ireland Football Champions, Kerry in their own back yard. Now it’s time for the clash of the ash. In December 2005, the Hurling Underdogs team will take on Kilkenny on their home turf. It’s the Dogs against the Cats. This time around the team will be trained by Eamon Cregan of Limerick, Pat Fleury of Offaly and Cathal Moore of Galway. Between them, they have played, managed and won All-Irelands in each of the last four decades. There are a number of fresh aspects to the programme this year, one of which involves weekly player eliminations. This will ensure that players are kept on their toes and are constantly aiming to impress the selectors. Come December, we will see a panel of 24 determined players. The first of seven programmes will detail the trials, the selection process, and how this years’ Underdogs panel came to fruition! In this first episode viewers will see anxiety and worry grip the selectors when they assess the players, from a wide range of clubs and counties, that are available to them. The three begin to wonder if they have taken on an impossible task. The challenge is clear. The heat is on. This year’s selectors can be seen chatting with Páidí Ó Lionáird on Árdán (TG4, Saturday 15th Oct @ 10pm) before the first programme airs on TG4 Thursday 20 October.
