Press Release: The Banner Ladies Football
Club Ennis.

In the presence of Uachtarán Cumann Peil
Gael na mBan Geraldine Giles, the Mayor of Ennis Mr. Frank Neylon
presented members of The Banner Ladies 2005 All Ireland Féile
winning team with commemorative awards in recognition of their great
achievement. Mayor Neylon also presented a Children of Lir bronze
statuette to Club chairman James Costello and a testimonial scroll
to team captain Niamh Martin. 

In his commendation Mayor Neylon spoke highly of the work and
endeavour that goes into preparing a team to achieve national
success and complimented the Banner Ladies Football Club for their
input in enhancing the lives of so many girls in the Ennis area
and its environs. Stressing the importance of physical activity
and exercise as a blueprint for healthy lifestyles the mayor went
on to say that while winning an All Ireland was a huge achievement,
it was its sense of dedication to team participation and community
responsibility that really makes The Banner Ladies stand out as
a club.

He thanked all club mentors, officials and parents for their
support of the girls in playing football. In her address to all
in attendance Uachtarán Cumann Peil Gael na mBan, Gearldine
Giles, thanked Ennis Town Council for its recognition of the achievement
of The Banner Ladies Club and also for its public profiling of
the sport of Ladies Gaelic Football. She wished both Ennis and
The Banner Ladies every success in the future and hoped she would
have many occasions in which to return to Clare.

In her acceptance address team captain Niamh Martin thanked Ennis
UDC for the honour bestowed on the team and Niamh also thanked
her club trainers and officials for their commitment to all the
girls and ladies at the club. In conclusion Ennis Town Council
elected member Tommy Brennan presented An tUachtarán Geraldine
Giles with a commemorative piece of Newbridge Silverware and U
– 14 Clare County Championship captain Niamh Cavanagh presented
the Uachtarán with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of The
Banner Ladies Club.

Others in attendance at the ceremony included Ennis Town Clerk
Eddie Power and Clare Ladies Football Board chairman James Lafferty.
All in all it was a special night to remember for the girls and
officials of The Banner Ladies Football Club.
