The team from Upper Creggan/South Armagh

The team from Upper Creggan/South Armagh
started out last October under the management and guidance of Michael
McElroy, Veronica McLoughlin, Mary Toner, Gemma McTeggart, and Aileen
Matthews. For many of them it was their first time to kick a ball.
They trained all year, rain, hail, sleet and snow. They won the Ulster
Semi-final and Final of the Community Games, beating both Cavan and
Monaghan on 8th July last in Armagh. They went on to compete in the
All-Ireland Semi-final in Mosney on Saturday 19th August. They beat
Duagh-Lyre (Kerry) 3-9 v 1-3 and went through to the All-Ireland Final
the next day, Sunday 20th August. The beat Newbridge-St Conleths (Kildare)
3-8 v 1-6 to become All-Ireland Champions. They are a great bunch
of girls, and they hailed from Cullyhanna, Dorsey, Silverbridge, Newtownhamilton,
Crossmaglen, Culloville and Anamar. There was much celebration in
the past few weeks with the girls attending all the Armagh Ladies
football matches, displaying their trophies and meeting the Ladies
Senior team.
