This weeks VHI Healthcare Match Previews

This weekend’s Vhi Healthcare Club Championship fixtures will
be dominated by some of the biggest names of the game as the stars
line out in both the Munster and Connacht Championships. The Munster
Senior, Intermediate and Junior finals take place in Limerick
this Saturday and four of Cork’s All Ireland winning side will
line out for Inch Rovers in the Senior final against Kerry outfit
Southern Gaels.

Player of the Match in the All Ireland final, Angela Walsh will
line up along side Ciara Walsh, Anne Marie Walsh and Amy O’Se,
all of whom were part of Cork’s three in a row winning panel.
However Rovers will be without influential forward Mary O’Connor
who missed the All Ireland final through injury and has since
been diagnosed with a fractured kneecap. Southern Gaels can call
on their own big guns as former All Star and International Rules
captain Sarah O’Connor will be joined up front by fellow All Star
and international soccer representative Kacie O’Driscoll.

In the Intermediate final Cork’s Mourneabbey take on Cooraclare
from the Banner County. Mourneabbey are a very young side who
can boast nine players who were part of this year’s Cork All Ireland
Minor winning team. Cooraclare won their second consecutive county
title this year and will be hopeful of becoming the first Clare
side to win an All Ireland Club Championship title. West Clare
Gaels can count on the vast experience of County captain Majella
Griffin as they take on Casleisland Desmonds from Kerry in the
Junior final. The other key fixtures of the weekend take place
in Connacht as Carnacon, last year’s runners-up in the Senior
All Ireland Club Championships, host Geevagh of Sligo.

The Mayo outfit will have the services of 2007 Golden Boot winner
Cora Staunton despite the fact that the star forward is scheduled
for a knee operation before Christmas. In the other semi-final
of the Connacht Senior Club Championship Aughawillian of Leitrim
take on Corofin. Aughawillian are a very strong outfit with the
core of their team providing the backbone to the Leitrim side
that won this year’s All Ireland Intermediate title. Sarah McLoughlin
the Irish Independent/Lucozade Sport Player of the Month for September
will lead the line for Aughawillian and will be ably supported
by fellow county stars Catherine Holohan, Mary McKeon, Maeve Quinn,
and Eimear McGlade.
