Errigal
to challenge Carrickmore for Senior crown
Aodh Ruadh 2-5 Errigal Ciaran 0-13

Errigal
Ciaran won through to the Senior decider courtesy
of a two-point victory over Aodh Ruadh last
Friday night. Young star Sarah Connolly was
the hero for Errigal with nine points of her
sides total, with two superbly struck free kicks
from over 35 metres pushing her side ahead in
injury time.

Substitute
Caroline Kelly, who carried an injury into the
tie, looked to have swung the tie in Aodh Ruadh’s
favour with two second half goals, but Errigal
continued to press with the returning Siobhan
Mc Garvey driving her side forward at every
opportunity. Selena Oguz also made a somewhat
surprise appearance late on and her introduction
gave renewed vigour to the Errigal attack.

But
for three point-blank saves from Martina Dillon,
Aodh Ruadh could have been further behind at
the half time break, as she kept the Errigal
attack at bay. Aodh Ruadh lacked that killer
edge, and in the end were pushed out by their
hungrier opponents who also had key performers
in full-back Kelly Marie Mc Crory, midfielder
Rosaleen Mc Garvey and stalwart Claire Mc Garvey
at full forward.

With
Briege Mc Garvey and Nuala Mc Garvey yet to
return to the fray, Errigal will enter the final
with confidence after missing out on last years
decider. Having taken the notable scalp of Aodh
Ruadh, this could well be the year when they
finally make their long-awaited breakthrough
at senior level.

Carrickmore
3-13 St Macartans 1-05

A
second half blitz saw reigning champions Carrickmore
through to this years decider with a comprehensive
victory over their Clogher Valley rivals. In
the end, it was a comfortable win for Carrickmore
as Macartans faded badly towards the end and
allowed their opponents to rack up the scores.

There
was little between the sides in the opening
period, with Tyrone stars Eilish Gormley and
Gemma Begley in sparkling form for Carrickmore
with two points each, while Elaine Coyle and
Lynnette Hughes also found the target. Orla
O’Neill and Cathy Donnelly were equally impressive
in the Macartans attack, asking serious questions
of the Carmen rearguard. Carrickmore edged into
a 1-6 to 0-3 lead, their goal coming from corner
forward Stacey Mc Cann, before O’Neill responded
for Macartans with one of her trademark runs
and rifled her shot to the back of the Carrickmore
net to make it 1-6 to 1-3 at the break.

St
Macartans enjoyed the majority of the possession
at the start of the second half, but could only
manage points from Cathy Donnelly and Elaine
Kelly to narrow the deficit to just a point.
Amazingly, this was to be their last score of
the evening as Carrickmore stepped up a gear
to simply blow away any hope of a Macartans
comeback.

First, Eilish Gormley fielded well on the end
line before laying the ball back to substitute
Etaoine O’Kane on the edge of the square to
palm home, before Gormley and Begley grabbed
a point each. Begley then pounced to block down
an attempted clearance from Macartans keeper
Eileen Mc Elroy, and the ball broke to Gormley
to poke home to the empty net.

Macartans
by this stage were in disarray, camped in their
own half as Carrickmore launched wave after
wave of attacks on their opponents’ goal. O’Kane
completed her contribution by firing over four
expertly taken points before the finish to open
up a thirteen point margin by the final whistle.

Glenelly
and Moy through to Intermediate decider

Glenelly 3-7 Beragh 0-8

Glenelly
marched into another Intermediate final courtesy
of their eight point win over Beragh on Friday
night, and did so in some style despite the
absence of midfielder and captain Anne Dooher
who was abroad on work commitments. Beragh,
though, will rue their missed opportunities
and failure to capitalise when they were on
top for long periods of the game as they frustratingly
went out of the championship once again.

Young
attacking star Aisling O’Kane was top scorer
for Glenelly, her breathtaking pace on the ball
causing havoc in the Beragh rearguard. It was
her two goals in the first half, with another
from Nicola Sheerin, which set Glenelly on their
way to a 3-5 to 0-3 half time lead and left
Beragh with a mountain to climb.

Beragh though fought back with unbelievable
courage, firing over five unanswered points
at the start of the second half to narrow the
deficit to six points, with full forward Lisa
Rodgers firing over some fine scores, and for
a time it looked as if Glenelly could be in
serious trouble. However, that was to be as
close as Beragh were to come as late points
for Glenelly from Carol-Ann O’Kane and Carol
Dooher sealed the win.

Glenelly:
Kelly Mc Caughey, Paula Sheerin, Pauline Campbell,
Patricia Anne Kearney, Orla Kerlin, Grace Mc
Cullagh, Eimear Mc Connell, Fiona Marie Kearney,
Mairead O’Hagan, Carol Anne O’Kane, Carol Dooher,
Kelly Marie Gormley, Nicola Sheerin, Lisa Mc
Cullagh, Aisling O’Kane

Beragh:
Roisin Mc Neilis, Sabrina Mc Nally, Tracey Rodgers,
Cathy Cox, Cara Franey, Claire Donnelly, Michaela
Donnelly, Josephine Rodgers, Noleen Owens, Colleen
Mc Sorley, Julie Conroy, Donna Donnelly, Cathy
Donnelly, Lisa Rodgers, Ciara Donnelly

Moy
2-9 Loughmacrory 1-4

Two
first half goals from Nina Murphy set Moy on
their way to a place in the Intermediate decider
as they proved to be just too strong for Loughmacrory
in Sunday evenings meeting between the two sides
in Dunmoyle.

Moy
looked sharp throughout and were able to share
the scoring burden around their attacking unit,
in comparison to their opponents who struggled
to turn possession into scores, as Moy led by
2-3 to 0-4 at the break.

In
the second half, Moy once again outplayed their
opponents and Lisa Mc Aleer’s injury time goal
was the only impression the Lough girls made
on the scoreboard in the second period. Moy
meanwhile had added six further points to their
tally, made up of two points each from Susan
Mc Cann, Leona Gallagher and Nina Murphy.

Moy
therefore progress to the Intermediate final
just twelve months after winning the Junior
title, a fantastic achievement by the young
side once again captained by the impressive
Patricia Conroy in defence, while midfielders
Rionnach Lavery and Shauna Jordan provided the
fulcrum for their side as they powered to victory.

Moy:
Michelle Clancey, Cathy O’Neill, Patricia Conroy,
Collette Jordan, Maria Jordan, Sarah Rafferty,
Frances Bigley, Rionnach Laverty, Shauna Jordan,
Susan Mc Cann, Maeve Mc Kearney, Claire Ogle,
Leona Gallagher, Kelly Fay, Nina Murphy

Loughmacrory:
Rachel O’Brien, Nuala Donaghy, Maria Carr, Cara
Mc Anespie, Kathy Mc Aleer, Marie Gallagher,
Ciara Mc Elduff, Kerri Grimes, Orla Toner, Kaleena
Kelly, Paula Mc Elduff, Nadine Kelly, Karen
Kelly, Eimear Ward, Lisa Mc Aleer

Kileeshil
and Fintona to contest for Junior crown

In
Sunday’s ties Junior double bill at Beragh,
Fintona proved too strong for Mna na Deirge
as they won through on a 3-12 to 4-02 scoreline.
The championship final will provide Fintona
with the opportunity to bounce straight back
to Intermediate football following their relegation
last year, and the Pearses will be confident
that they can take the Brenda Logue Junior Championship
title.

The
second tie at Beragh was a repeat of last years
semi-final, but this time it was Kileeshil who
were victorious by two points, 2-8 to 2-6. A
fantastic individual return of 2-2 from Clodagh
Poyntz was not enough to see her side to victory,
as her tally was matched by Kathleen Hegarty
of Kileeshil. The east Tyrone side will be hopeful
that this is the year that they can finally
make the breakthrough at senior level, having
come so strongly through the underage ranks
over the years.
