CABINTEELY U14 LADIES ENJOY SUCCESS AT ALL IRELAND FEILE IN GALWAY Cabinteely Under 14 Ladies Football team are celebrating their successful participation in the All Ireland Feile 2003 finals in Galway recently. They won all their games in Division 1 Group B. They had a fine win over host team Mountbellew/Moylough on Friday. In this game Mountbellew/Moylough went ahead 4 points to no score. However, two quick goals by Cabinteely near half time proved to be the turning point in this game . There were excellent performances by captain, Ciara Murphy, Amy Connoly and Sinead Goldrick. There were also fine performances by Michelle Kavanagh, Gemma McKechnie, Jane Creighton, Jennifer Curtin, Amy Clarkin and Maeve Cronin and Deirdre McGing who came on as subs. The final score was Cabinteely 5-7 Mountbellew/Moylough 4 points. The team and mentors participated in the Feile parade to Pearse Stadium on Friday evening which was a most enjoyable occasion. On Saturday morning Cabinteely overcame a determined Glenamaddy team in a close encounter, which finished Cabinteely 2-2 Glenamaddy 1-2. Joanna O’Connell’s goalkeeping was a feature of this game with excellent outfield performances by Amy Ring, Ciara O’Riordan. Aoife Martinho and Hazel Kidney. Later on Saturday in one of the top games of the competition Cabinteely overcame the well fancied Shelmaliers of Wexford in a heart stopping clash. Cabinteely opened the scoring with a point after 2 minutes. Shelmaliers quickly drew level with a fine point. In the seventh minute Ciara Murphy had to leave the field with what appeared to be a serious knee injury. Grainne Killion did a great job in her absence. Ciara returned to the fray in the second half giving a star performance. Ailish Conlon, Leonn Ward and Aoife Kestell gave fine performances in the forwards. Tara Jolly, Susan Bracken, Amy Caulfield and Blanaid Callan were as reliable as ever in the back line. The highlight of this game was the second half scoring performance by Amy Connolly. She scored points in the first, second, sixth, thirteenth and seventeenth minutes. Cabinteely won on a score of 7 points to 1-2. In the semifinal Beara, the eventual champions, overcame Cabinteely with a top class performance. Mountbellew/Moylough were outstanding hosts and our club Chairman, Eamon Clarkin, has extended an invitation to them for a reciprocal visit later in the year. Participation in All Ireland Feile 2003 was both successful and enjoyable. In summary, the team performed beyond pre-Feile predictions. Cabinteely Under 14 Ladies Football team would like to thank everyone who helped to ensure their participation in the Feile was both successful and enjoyable. Special mentions for John Bailey, Chairman Dublin County Board GAA, Sinead McNulty and Gary McConville of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, YAZOO, Killiney Court Hotel, Ken O’Riordan, Martin Gavin and Mary Coyle of the Mountbellew/Moylough GAA Club and Sean Flood of Joe Moroney Bus. The team management included Dermot Connolly, Pat Sayers, Gerry Killion and Catherine McKenna. In addition, there was great backup from the team’s parents.
