Ulster U-19B Schools final match report

Ulster
U-19B Schools final match report

Ulster
U19B Schools Final – St. Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon
5-12 Fermanagh College 2-7.

A combined tally of 3-7 from Eimear Tally and Niamh
Mc Kernan along with two penalty saves from Dawn
Corrigan was the foundation for St. Patrick’s Academy
Dungannon to lift the Ulster U19B schools title
at Clogher on Saturday. Cavan County star Aisling
Treanor opened the scoring with a nice point for
Fermanagh College but the lead was short lived as
Eimear Tally poked the first of her two goals in
the fourth minute. Joanna Farrell responded with
a goal in the 13th minute for the Enniskillen side
and both she and Treanor added further points however
in the final ten minutes of the half Dungannon began
to dominate. Goals from Martina Kerr and Britta
Quinn, as well as a brace of points from the impressive
Tally gave the Dungannon side a 3-6 to 1-5 interval
lead.

The Academy started the second half as they finished
the first with centre back and player of the match
Niamh Mc Kernan finding the net. Mc Kernan (2) and
Nina Murphy added further points for The Academy
and then Eimear Tally scored her second goal to
give the Dungannon outfit a 5-9 to 1-7 lead entering
the final quarter. Fermanagh College did find the
net for a second time when midfielder Aisling Moane
scored direct from a free but the Academy hit straight
back with a couple of points from Clare Scullion.
In the final few minutes Fermanagh College were
awarded two penalties and on both occasions Dawn
Corrigan saved brilliantly.

It was fitting that the last score of the game came
from Niamh Mc Kernan who brought her tally to 1-4
with a fine point.

Scorers St. Patrick’s Academy Dungannon –
Eimear Tally 2-3, Niamh Mc Kernan 1-4, Martina Kerr
1-1, Britta Quinn 1-0, Claire Scullion 0-2, Emma
Mc Alliskey and Nina Murphy 0-1.
Scorers Fermanagh College – Joanna Farrell
1-1, Aisling Moane 1-1, Aisling Traynor 0-4
Referee – Sean Gilsenan (Monaghan)

The U19A final between St. Louis, Monaghan and Mount
Lourdes, Enniskillen fell victim of the weather.
Tyrone referee Eileen Jones deemed the frozen pitch
in Newtownbutler too dangerous to play on. It is
hoped to play the final early this week as several
of the Louis girls are involved in the U16A final
on Saturday next.
