Vhi Healthcare All Ireland Senior Club
Semi-Final

Ballyboden St Endas 0-7
Donaghmoyne 0-12

Champions Ballyboden made their exit form the Vhi
Healthcare senior club championship after Monaghan side Donaghmoyne
produced a stunning display in ‘Boden’.

The Dublin girls were aiming to keep their dream of a 3rd consecutive
title alive but on the day can have no complaints with the outcome.
Donaghmoyne beaten in the final last year by ‘Boden’ got off to
a blistering start helped by a swirling wind on their backs.

At the end of the opening quarter they led 0-8 to 0-1 with Catriona
McConnell notching five of the visitors points. Fiona Corcoran and
McConnell exchanged points before ‘Boden’ began to show just why
they were champions. They dominated the 2nd quarter but between
missed chances, the crossbar on two occasions and some wonderful
defending they only managed a further point before the break from
Teresa Monahan.

After the resumption the home side continued on the offensive and
fired over four unanswered points from Caroline Conway, Gemma Fay
and Teresa Monahan (2) to reduce the deficit to 2points. It was
a dominant period that also seen full forward Monahan hit the upright
with her goal attempt.

After weathering the storm Donaghmoyne hit back to finish the stronger
and deservedly march on. Corner back Niamh Lynch came forward to
hit their first score in 30 minutes of football to settle the Ulster
champions. A foul on substitute Louise Ruddy resulted in the Monaghan
girls awarded a penalty 10 minutes from time but McConnell’s attempt
flew wide.

The former Ulster young player of the head kept her head up and
responded with a point from a free and one from midfielder Amanda
Casey wrapped up a memorable Donaghmoyne victory.
