03 October 2014 West Dominate TESCO Homegrown Club 7's Share this Article 0 0 0 Shares! 0 Shares! The TESCO Homegrown All Ireland Club 7’s took place in Naomh Mearnóg and St. Sylvester’s at the weekend where 4 of the 6 available titles went West as Galway clubs produced the goods on the eve of the TG4 All Ireland Finals. The headlines will go to Kilkerrin/Clonberne of Galway who were the overall winners of the TESCO Homegrown Senior All Ireland Club 7’s after they held off the strong challenge of Parnell’s from London in a pulsating final. Parnell’s were in fantastic form throughout the day as they defeated pre tournament favourites, Donaghmoyne, in the quarter final by no fewer than 10 points. They reached the final after defeating Dublin’s Foxrock Cabinteely in their semi final. Kilkerrin/Clonberne took part in the game of the day when they took on a star studded Emyvale team in their semi final but they held on to win by 4 points, incidentally, Emyvale featured 4 members of the McAnespie family with mother and Ladies Gaelic legend, Brenda rolling back the years in goal. Kilkerrin/Clonberne were the team that dealt better with the inevitable fatigue that set in during their final encounter with Parnell’s and it was the likes of the excellent Ward twins, Nicola scored 2 goals and was named Player of the Match, and fellow Galway star Olivia Divilly that were to prove the difference in the keenly contested final. Elsewhere, Mountmellick Sarsfields from Laois were defeated in the Senior Shield final by a very impressive Banner side from Clare. The Intermediate Championship Final was another that went right down to the wire but it too eventually headed West to Galway in the possession of Glenamaddy/Williamstown who had a single point to spare over Castleisland Desmonds. The shield final was also claimed by a Galway club, this time Miltown, who managed to overcome Corduff of Monaghan thanks to an 8 goal haul in the final. St. Bridgid’s of Limerick ensured that a second TESCO Homegrown Club 7’s title would go to Munster as they defeated Dublin’s Castleknock in another extremely tight game. The 4th TESCO Homegrown All Ireland Club 7’s title that made the journey back down the N6 to Galway was the Junior Shield title which was claimed by Naomh Anna, Leitirmore who were convincing winners against Man O’War in their final. This year, for the first time, there was also an International section which featured 5 teams who made the journey to take part from overseas. An Eoraip and Europe represented the European teams with Thomas McCurtain’s from London and St. Lawrence’s from Lancashire also making the long trip to take part. However, the longest journey of all was undertaken by Na Fianna who travelled over all the way from San Diego to take part. After a day of great competition it was Thomas McCurtain’s and An Eoraip that contested the final with the London club going on to claim the divisional title.
