Westmeath ladies on the up and up Westmeath travelled to Stratford in Wiclow last Sunday to start off their league campaign. As we have got a new manager this year things were looking promising. We started the game very poorly with chances not being taken at the right time. Also as it was the first time we have ever played together as a team it took us a while to get used to each other. We failed to score in the first half. The half time talk seemed to get us going, when we came back onto the field we got a free and pointed it and this got us going. We scored 1-8 in the second half to Wickows 1-2. Players such as Laura Walsh, Jenny Rodgers, Claire Corcoran, Fiona Claffey, Laura Halligan and Carol Finch played well for Westmeath. Team is as follows: Niamh Mulligan (Milltown) Ciara McCormack (Garrycastle) Claire Corcoran(Rochfortbridge) Aoife McCormack (Garrycastle) Olive Heduan (Miltown) Lisa Burke (Mullingar Shamrocks) Jenny Rodgers (milltown) Rhona Murtagh (st lomans) Laura Walsh (Garrycastle) Shelly Fletcher (Garrycastle) Louise Begley (Mullingar Shamrocks) Carol Finch (mullingar shamrocks) Laura Halligan (Milltown) Stephanie Kelly (St lomans) Fiona Claffey (killbeggan) Player of the match for westmeath Jenny Rodgers Milltown Get well soon to Ciara McCormack who damaged her collar bone during the match.
