Wexford Ladies Footballers face tough test on Sunday The Wexford Datapac ladies football team take on Leitrim, the Connacht champions, in the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate championship in Wexford Park on Sunday next at 12.30pm. This is expected to be a difficult hurdle for Wexford against a Leitrim team that put up a fine display against Sligo in last year’s All-Ireland Junior final in Croke Park before succumbing on a 0-8 to 0-4 scoreline. Leitrim had an indifferent league campaign and failed to make the quarter finals. However, they have bounced back and had a convincing 2-14 to 3-5 victory over Westmeath in the previous round and will travel to Wexford full of confidence in their ambition to go one better this year. Encounters between Wexford and Leitrim have always been close, with little separating the sides. Wexford had a few points to spare over Leitrim in the All-Ireland quarter final of 2005, and Sunday’s encounter is expected to be equally as tight. This will be a very difficult hurdle for Wexford who had an impressive 7-19 to 1-6 win over Louth in the previous round, but they will have learned little as the Wee county were not at full strength. However, they have the ability to clear it as they posses players of experience and skill.
